"State
of Synthpop 2003"
the awesome 85 track 5CD Boxset (...yes, 85 different artists and songs!)
compiled by 'A Different Drum' in collaboration with both 'Ninthwave
Records' & '11th Records' is now available from the 'A
Different Drum' online store. Hand Held Halo Productions were
lucky enough to contribute tracks by Gebrauche-Musik, Seven Words,
Intervox, Hand Held Halo and Invisible College to this landmark
compilation which is intended as a snapshot of the current synthpop
scene. We'll leave the last word with the main man behind this
visionary release, Todd Durrant of 'A Different Drum' |
||
|
|
|||
|
"State of Synthpop is a snapshot of a scene that is too often
ignored by the mainstream, commercial music market. Many of these
bands SHOULD be superstars, but they are content to know that a few people
can hear their music, make a personal connection, and share in a common
dream. You, the independent music fan, help to make it all worth
it! Thanks - Todd Durrant" |

For
those of you who may not be aware an excellent review of the 'Seven Words'
single "Wipe the Slate Clean" (including the promo video) is
featured in the latest issue of the very
informative 'synthpop only' fanzine "Synthetic Vision - SV12" (click

The
'Seven Words' artist page has been updated with some recent reviews of the
"Wipe the Slate Clean" CD+™ single, so why not check them out
and see why Paul Adams (a.k.a Seven Words) is widely considered one of the most
intelligent and highly regarded song writers within the current electronic music
scene. |
||

It's
taken us a while to finalise details but at last we can proudly present our newest signing for 2003
and announce details of their debut CD single. "Invisible College" are a
Canadian based electronic outfit comprising of Bob
Hanley, Eric Klaver and Andrew White, who first came to the
attention of HHHP in late 2002. OK we'll pre-empt the comparisons
and admit "Invisible College's" spacious and atmospheric style
of electropop is reminiscent of some of the early 80's pioneers but it is
done with such wondrous authenticity and song writing excellence it
actually sounds refreshing, honest and paradoxically unique within the
current synthpop scene. Why not check out the "Invisible
College" sound on their HHHP artist page. Their impressive
3-song CD single entitled "Lift" is now available online from
the HHHP
secure online store and will soon to be available from the
"Source of Synthpop" A
Different Drum.
As a point of interest the song title for the second track on the CD
appears by kind permission of Andy McCluskey of OMD. |

OK,
after such a long informational sabbatical let's start the unveiling of
recent news with the new and quite frankly awesome Seven Words single
"Wipe the Slate Clean". In this cautionary tale of man's
misuse of the planet from the perspective of mother earth, Paul Adams
a.k.a "Seven Words" yet again displays why he is one of the most
literary synthpop artists ever to grace a synthesiser! The single is
also notable for the promotional video and scintillating dance remixes by
Russian remix artists Valery Guyvoronsky a.k.a "Monopoly" and
Anatoly Voronin a.k.a "Proc.S". At the unbelievable price
of £1.99 inclusive of postage and packing the enhanced CD single also
contains photo's, wallpapers and screensavers. To buy your copy

website, demo submissions, new Seratonal material, new Intervox material,
promotion, concerts, competitions and much more! So watch this space
over the next few months as we try and unveil at least some of what we've
been up to for your personal listening pleasure and visual delectation

It's
always nice to start off the New Year on a positive note and I think we've
done just that at HHHP with the signing of the US Synthpop outfit 'Intervox'.
Those of you who are familiar with the electronic music scene over the
last couple of years may already be aware of Jeff Harper and the work he
has done under the project name of 'Intervox'. However it is
probably the quality, maturity and diversity of Jeff's recent work that
has convinced us that Intervox will be a worthy and valuable addition to
the Hand Held Halo Productions roster of artists. For those of you not familiar with Jeff Harper, ‘Intervox’ produces a captivatingly diverse blend of darkwave synthpop mixed with more contemporary electronica. Over the last 3 years Jeff has been active as both writer and remixer, collaborating with such artists as NukleoN, Paris By Air, Except Europa and Simulator. Jeff has also remixed the likes of Depeche Mode, Garbage, New Order, Madonna and Echoing Green. For more info and audio check out the Intervox artist page and then if you feel so inspired download a free track and possibly buy a couple more at the Hand Held Halo Productions Secure Online Shop |

A
review by Carl Jenkinson the London Electro DJ and reviewer for Sequences,
Re/Volt & Kaleidoscope has just been posted on the electronic music
website Re/Volt.com. If you need further evidence that "Fall
From Grace" is one of the most significant UK Synthpop releases of
recent years please read on; The full "Fall From Grace" review appears on the ReVolt E-zine website. This short extract appears courtesy of Re/Volt and Carl Jenkinson, December 2002. "There are certain albums where the music is so graceful, progressive & full of feeling that the word 'synthpop' seems too flippant a term to describe it. This is one such release & is one that places Paul Adams in the league of song writing excellence." |
||
| 27.11.02 | Generally we would leave you to discover our artists official websites by exploring the links on the respective artist pages but we feel the new revamped "Seven Words" site at www.sevenwords.co.uk is particularly worthy of a special note. The redesign is based around the visual concepts used on the new album "Fall From Grace" and consequently the Flash enabled version looks very sleek. Not only does the site look good it's also got the usual array of audio links, lyrics, images and info. However the thing that makes this site and the previous incarnation of the Seven Words website that bit more informative and insightful are the song explanations with additional links to sites that deal with the song topics in greater detail. With the strength of lyric writing displayed on both the Seven Words albums these explanations can be pretty poignant stuff. | ||
| 22.11.02 | An excellent review of the new Seven Words album "Fall From Grace" has been posted on The Electrogarden Network by Danny King the editor of the synthpop fanzine Synthetic Vision. This 10/10 Review by Danny gives you a truly engaging track by track analysis of what is surely one of the most impressive synthpop releases of 2002. I would recommend checking out the review on the EGN website and while you're there why not contribute to the thriving electronic community by expressing your views in the many forums. Better still after you've finished chatting why not go and cash in your EGN forum points and pick up your copy of "Fall from Grace" or one of the other Hand Held Halo Production CD's from The EGN Community Shop. | ||
| 08.11.02 | RealMedia™ audio extracts from the new Seven Words album "Fall From Grace" are now available on the Seven Words artist page with an exclusive free download soon to be available from The Electrogarden Network. If you like what you hear why not buy online here at our very own Secure Online Shop or alternatively if you're a regular EGN forum contributor why not trade in some EGN forum points and collect your copy from The Electrogarden Network Community Shop. "Fall From Grace" will also be available from arguably the best Synthpop Record Label and online store in the United States of America, "A Different Drum". Don't forget this Seven Words release also contains exclusive multimedia content and bonus remixes by "SynthetiK FM" and Seven Words. If you haven't heard our artists before or bought from our online store why not start off small with one of our genre specific Virtually FreeCD™ (...well I nearly got it to rhyme*!?#*?). | ||

It
gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of the Seven Words remix
competition that we ran back in August in association with our close
friends and musical partners The
ElectroGarden Network. Neil from HHHP would like to thank all
the artists that took the time to produce and submit a remix. The
winning remix is in fact by a regular EGN forum member and
enthusiastic supporter of the synthpop scene. Bobby Clark (alias
BC) produced his "Subconscious Mix" of the Seven Words
track "Master of My Mind" under his project name "Synthetik
FM" drawing on his early 80's synthpop stylings to great effect.
Check out this exclusive extra content plus other bonus
remixes by Seven Words on the "Fall From Grace" album which is
due for release tomorrow, November 5th! It will initially be
available direct from the Hand
Held Halo Productions Secure Online Shop and then eventually
from both "A
Different Drum" and the EGN
Community Shop.

| 14.08.02 | The Synthetic Vision "Fifth Anniversary" Gig at the small but beautifully formed Isaac Butt Bar in Dublin was enjoyed by all who attended. Both bands on the evening were excellent with outstanding vocal performances from both Paul Adams of Seven Words and Aidan Casserly of Empire State Human. Even though ESH aren't on HHHP's roster I would certainly recommend checking them out as their Live mixes are full of energy, emotion and even a little reverential satire with tracks like "We Are Industry" & "Strange Star". Paul Adams of Seven Words delivered a powerful and thought provoking set with many new tracks taken from the very imminent... (...I can almost taste it) album "Fall From Grace". I believe a full review of the event will be posted on the Electrogarden Network shortly but in the meantime have a look at a couple of photos from the evening by clicking on the following links. NEW SIGNING - HHHP have just recently signed the German industrial dance & trance artist "trittschall" a.k.a Michael Kieckbusch. "trittschall" is something a little different within the genre of electronic dance in that he amalgamates & homogenizes a multifarious array of styles to produce his very own unique and provocative form of EBM. Click here to listen to the track 'ablfug' and then visit "trittschall's" artist page for more information and audio. Full mp3 versions of "trittschall's" songs will be available to download from the HHHP secure online store in the very near future. |

Even though we haven't
posted any news items for quite some time I assure you things are still
very busy at HHHP. The new Seven Words album "Fall From
Grace" is in the final stages of production in readiness for an early
August 2002 release date. "Fall
From Grace" is yet another slice of cerebral UK synthpop, on which
Paul Adams explores a diversity of topics such as abduction and
incarceration in "These Four Walls" and bereavement and loss in
"So Sweet the Promise". RealAudio™
extracts from "Fall From Grace" will appear on the HHHP website
over the next few days, so please remember to check back for those.
Listen out for the track "Wipe the Slate Clean" which is looking
like it will be the first single taken from "Fall From
Grace". Seven Words also played an informal impromptu gig in
front of a packed house (...no literally, it was a converted cellar in a
rather large house!). Paul Adams live vocal performance was truly
outstanding and again testament to the fact that he is currently one of
the best singer songwriters of the genre. Look out for details of
the forthcoming Seven Words gig with "Empire State Human" in
Dublin on 29th July.
Seratonal have also been busy and the newly remixed track "So Cold" featuring vocals by Theresa LaBrooy will soon be featured on their page. S.p.u.l have been approached with regards to a number of compilation albums to be released later this year and Phear is now active in a number of Asian regions. New material from both Phear and s.p.u.l will appear on their pages in the near future. |

| 09.03.02 | For those of you who didn't manage to get a copy of the excellent 3xCD Synthpop Compilation "Shadow Dancing - 2nd Movement" featuring our very own Seven Words and Gebrauche-Musik, you'll be pleased to hear it's still available from Amazon.com and A Different Drum. | ||
| 10.02.02 | As many of you may recollect Debbie the lead singer of Hand Held Halo had a torrid time fighting a number of re-occurring throat conditions throughout 2001 making it very difficult for Hand Held Halo to continue functioning as either a live or recording band. Consequently 2001 was relatively quiet for Hand Held Halo (...the band, not the Label). This therefore makes the powerfully emotive and angst ridden performance on their new track all that more amazing. If you're in the mood for an anthemic electropop ballad look no further than "I Feel" by Hand Held Halo which incidentally was co-written with Paul Adams of Seven Words who wrote the lyrics. Listen to a small RealMedia™ extract here or on the artist page and then download the full track from the HHHP secure online store. | ||
| 09.02.02 | Francis Perez, the man behind the electronic music project Seratonal has recently signed to Hand Held Halo Productions. Seratonal is a project born out of continual collaboration and musical invention and is the first "Hand Held Halo Productions" signing for 2002. Some of Seratonal's most recent collaborations include both Paul Adams of Seven Words and Debbie Houldridge of Hand Held Halo. This UK based electronic collective produce a diversity of well crafted electronica and electropop. Look out for future releases and downloads, but in the meantime check out their sound on the Seratonal Artist page. | ||

| 03.10.01 | Many of you will already be familiar with the "The Electrogarden Network" and it's policy and mission objectives of supporting and promoting every facet of the underground electronic music scene. Commendable ideals which have been achieved with varying degree's of success over the years but one thing has remained constant...the genuine belief and affinity for the genre. | 23.09.01 | It somehow seemed inappropriate to make comments in haste as the World mourned the events of the 11th September 2001. Words are wholly inadequate when describing the magnitude and implication of the incredulous horror that unfolded on that fateful day. Our World has indeed changed...hopefully this change will ultimately cause the demise of those who choose to trade off the fear and terror of others. We have many friends in America and our feelings are obviously with them as they collectively grieve those they have lost, however let us not forget all the other nationalities that were touched by this tragedy...our heartfelt feelings are with you all. | ||

With the obvious evolutionary link between trance music and the early forms of synthpop & electropop that emerged in the UK and throughout Europe & the US during the late 70's & early 80's it's only natural that HHHP has an interest & affinity for good electronic dance and trance music. Also many contemporary synthpop & electropop outfits often produce "club" orientated remixes of new singles as exemplified by the work of DJ RAM who is currently working on a remix of the Seven Words track, "Your Move". To develop and hopefully expand upon HHHP's club and trance portfolio we have been fortunate enough to sign "Phear" who produce their own inimitable style of heart thumping and mind altering progressive trance. Joni Kivi the man behind "Phear" is also an accomplished DJ/Producer having already worked on a number of critically acclaimed trance and dance collaborations. Experience the "Phear" - click here! |

At only $20 for a 36 track 3 CD collection of some of the best from the current underground synthpop scene, this has got to be a very wise low risk investment & introduction to a lot of great new bands. | ||
| 26.04.01 | It gives us great pleasure at HHHP to introduce to you our latest signing "s.p.u.l". In a pleasant departure for HHHP "s.p.u.l" is in fact the Tomsk based multi-faceted electronic musician Sergei Spool who weaves an often dark almost "post industrial electro" tapestry with his electronic orchestrations. Instrumental ambient electronic music with an edge! Judge for yourselves and check out s.p.u.l at HHHP. | ||
| 11.03.01 | Both "seven words" and "Gebrauche-Musik" will be featured on a new compilation album from "A Different Drum" which is provisionally scheduled for Spring release. Both HHHP releases "a flawed paradigm" and "Manifest" are reviewed in this the most recent incarnation of this "Republic of Ireland" based underground fanzine. "Synthetic Vision" is the brainchild of Danny King and is, by his own admission, a simple clean cut A5 sized publication compiled using a modest budget very much in the old tradition of music Fanzines. It's articles offer an informative and often personal insight into the current International Synthpop scene. Issue 08 is packed with features, reviews, articles and comment from the world of Synthpop including a full length interview with the man behind Seven Words, Paul Adams. This sort of enthusiasm and passion for the genre should be encouraged so why not check it out? | ||
| 01.02.01 | Those of you that are return visitors will notice the inclusion of a Flash enhanced version of the site. My thanks must go to Paul from "Seven Words" who ably assisted with the redesign and implementation of the new HHHP site....talented chap that :-) Hopefully you will find the new version a more gratifying and ergonomic surfing experience, if not we have left the previous html version up and we will keep that as live and accurate as we possibly can. | ||
| 08.01.01 | For any of you that don't already subscribe to the "A Different Drum" Weekly Newsletter this is what they had to say about our recent releases which are now available through ADD (click on the album title to open the newsletter extract). | ||

Well I feel it's only right & proper to wish everyone who has visited us and supported our projects throughout 2000 a truly Happy & Prosperous New Year. As for Hand Held Halo Productions, well our hopes and aspirations for continued productivity & creativity throughout 2001 are high.
We'll be starting 2001 off with a subtle website change hopefully followed by a more radical facelift. Due to some new and obtrusive banner advertising by one of our domain hosts, the synthpop_shop selection page will be relocated over the next few days to a new "advert free" domain. As always your secure online transactions will continue to be handled by WorldPay's™ secure servers. |

| 14.07.00 | Hand Held Halo will be performing live on Sunday 30th July 2000 at their now customary outdoor summer venue "The Ferry House" on the banks of the River Trent, North Lincolnshire. As usual it will be a stand off between the great British weather and HHH until the last minute. Fingers crossed the weather will be conducive to another superb days entertainment from HHH. They'll hope to take the stage at about 2:00pm and run through with the occasional rest bite until approximately 7:00pm. If you can make it feel "free" (...operative word!), they're always pleased to see you. | ||
| 11.07.00 | Free Mp3s will now be posted periodically as a "thank you" for your continued support and interest in Hand Held Halo Productions. If you like the tracks please feel free to purchase and download more from that artist using our secure on-line ordering and download service incorporating the latest WorldPay™ e-commerce technology. | ||
| 30.06.00 | Strangely the "domaindlx.com" mp3 shop has been down during the last 24 hours. No risk of failed transactions as the page did not display. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. | ||
| 20.06.00 |
We have relocated the mp3 shop to a new ISP with full ASP & CGI support. Unfortunately it uses banner advertising but don't hold that against them they are in fact a very feature rich ISP. Why not check them out at; http://www1.domaindlx.com/index.html Despite the appearance of banners on the purchase page your purchase will still break out and connect to the WorldPay™ secure server (encrypted & certified), so please continue to shop in confidence. Despite numerous demo submissions from Australia, Italy, America, England, Japan & Canada we are still actively seeking new artists to sign and sell online. |
||
